Nancy (Correia) Barreras

Jamestown resident Nancy (Correia) Barreras died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 50.
Mrs. Barreras was born in Santa Cruz and moved to Jamestown 10 years ago.
She was a homemaker for 30 years. She enjoyed swimming, embroidery and sewing.
Mrs. Barreras was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Barreras, in 2005.?
She is survived by her mother, Marina ?Jewell? Barreras, of Jamestown; her daughter, Lenora Auston, of Tuolumne; her siblings, Morey Correia, of Jamestown, Brad Barreras, of Gilroy, Arcadio Barreras, of San Juan Baptista and Tonette White, of Valley Springs; and her grandson, John Donald Bell Jr.
A private memorial service will be held.

Former Tuolumne County resident Lowell Olson Carothers died May 25 at Loma Linda VA Hospital. He was 75.?
Mr. Carothers was born in Carlise, Pa., the 10th of 11 children.
At 17 he joined the U.S. Air Force and served four years in Germany as a radar operator.?
He lived in the Crystal Falls and Soulsbyville areas from 1970 to 1980. He eventually relocated to Perris in Riverside County.?
He worked as a self-employed commercial and residential electrical contractor in Tuolumne County and owned and operated Carothers Electric with his wife, Patricia.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending winters in Baja, Mexico, and traveling with his club, Vagabundos Del Mar.
Mr. Carothers was preceded in death by his son, John B. Carothers, in 1976; and his sister, Julie Weltmer, in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Carothers, of Perris; his children, Amy Carothers, of Howardsville, Va., and Dan Carothers, of Gillette, Wyo.; his stepchildren; Chris Mape and Mike Mape, of Tracy, Sue Gray and Judi Palhegyi, of Sonora, Teresa Mape, of Corvallis, Ore., Mary Mape, of Lonetree, Colo., and Sarah Mape, of San Francisco; his siblings, Doris Madison and Toni Erwin, of Grand Junction, Colo., Elsie Kilgore, of Waxham, N.C., Carl Carothers, of Reno, Nev., and John Carothers and Binx McBride, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Valley Springs resident Anna Marie Goyer died July 9 at her home. She was 82.
Mrs. Goyer was born in Naples, Italy. She arrived in the United States in 1947 as a war bride.?
After the death of her first husband, Arthur Jan, she married Thomas Goyer in 1957. She settled in Illinois and raised six children and three stepchildren. She moved to Valley Springs in 2009 to live with her daughter, Maria Behm, and her husband, Robert Behm.
Mrs. Goyer was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; her daughter, Lisa J. Sizemore, in 1978; and her grandson, Michael Thomas Behm, in 1978.
She is survived by her children, Thomas M. Goyer, William T. Goyer,? and Anita J. Sowle, all of New Port Richey, Fla., Mark P. Goyer, of Louisville, Ky., and Maria A. Behm, of Valley Springs.
A memorial service was held Friday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel.

Erle G. Howery

Copperopolis resident Erle G. Howery died June 19 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. He was 89.?
Mr. Howery was born in Montgomery, W.Va.?
He graduated from Hinton High School and studied journalism at Concord College. He served in World War II from Dec. 7, 1942, to February 1946.?
He was a journalist and earned both military and civilian credentials over more than 50 years in news and public relations fields.
He re-enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. While there he met his future wife, Margaret, a registered nurse in Carmel.
He worked as part of the Pacific Stars and Stripes newspaper and his military assignments took him to Japan and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged and became the civilian coordinator for the U.S. Army?s Far East news and troop information publications. He later worked for the Stockton Record, Oakland Tribune and became editor and publisher of the former Fremont Times and the Modesto Tribune.?
He established and managed Erle Enterprises, a San Francisco Bay Area media and publications agency, until his retirement to Copperopolis in 1993. During his career he received eight national awards for editorial excellence from the Educational Press Association of America.?
Mr. Howery is survived by his wife, Margaret Howery, of Copperopolis; his daughter, Janis; grandchildren, Adam, Jillian, Amanda, and Jeremy and his wife, Danielle; and one great-grandson.
A private memorial service will be held.

Herbert Eugene Ketchum

Valley Springs resident Herbert Eugene Ketchum died July 2 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. He was 93.?
Mr. Ketchum was born in Nowata, Okla.?
He served in the U.S. Army in the invasion of Italy during World War II. He worked as a carpenter for 20 years until retirement. He enjoyed carpentry and crafting kick knacks. He was a member of the Jumping Frog Seniors social club.?
Mr. Ketchum is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mabel (Vinetta) Ketchum, of Valley Springs; his children, Keith Ketchum, of Newark, Castle Ray Ketchum and his wife, Jeannie, of Manteca, and Linda Dituri and her husband, Joe, of Valley Springs; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.?
A memorial service was held Monday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel.
