Storm puts early end to Nite Rodeo - Nanton News - Alberta, CA

The sky turned black and the storm swept in, sending the crowds running for shelter, and also putting an early end to the Nanton Nite Rodeo on Friday.

The barrel racing was able to conclude, but the pole bending events were cancelled due to the pounding rain and lightning, with the timers and announcer running from the Old Crow?s Nest for the shelter of the red barn.

The rodeo was the fourth of the six-rodeo series.

In team roping, Dale Andrews and Clem Armstrong led the pack with a time of 28.6 seconds on their second calf. Cody Seitz and KC Seitz were second with 28.7 seconds on their second calf. Joel and Jessica Dykstra placed third with 11.8 seconds, and Chad Wilson and Weldon Peters placed fourth with 15.1 seconds.

In adult/child team roping, Cody Seitz and Kashley Seitz took top money with a time of 14.8 seconds. Carla Bick and Shelby Smith placed second with a time of 17.4 seconds, with Clem Armstrong and Parker Armstrong close behind them with a time of 17.7 seconds. Billy Hamilton and Reva Wilson placed fourth with a time of 45.5 seconds.

Stran Schlosser is maintaining his lead in the tie down roping. He took top spot with a time of 14.6 seconds, followed by Jake Burwash with 17.5 seconds and Weldon Peters with 28.6 seconds.

Pauline Hawk had a fast time of 3.5 seconds in the breakaway roping. She was followed for second by Shelby Smith who had a time of 4.8 seconds. Colleen Pentelchuk placed third with a time of 5.8 seconds, and Quinton Taylor placed fourth with 7.9 seconds.

Chesney Pighin had the fast time in the novice barrels, with a time of 16.791 seconds. Martina Lively placed second with 17.023, followed by Shelby Smith for third with 13.326 and Reva Wilson in fourth with 17.364 seconds.

Reata Schlosser led the way in junior barrels, with a time of 17.367 seconds. Shelby Smith was second with 17.657, Alisha Stevenson placed third with 17.882 seconds and Ashley Nelson placed fourth with 17.953 seconds.

Shawna Easson had the fast time on Friday in the senior barrel racing with a time of 17.281 seconds. Jesse Loree was second with a time of 17.410. Railey Tremblay was third with 17.570 and Dode Sears placed fourth with 17.634 seconds.

Kolton Arthur took the top money home in cow riding after scoring a 76. Blain Dixon was second with a 68, followed by Sean Alexander for third with a 66 and Cameron Rasmussen in fourth with a 64.

Wilson MacDonald and Kody Briggs split the top money in steer riding, after both scored 67. Jack Mitchell placed third with 66 and Luke Ferber placed fourth with 62.

There were no qualified rides in the bull riding.

Dustin Sippola had the high score in bronc riding, with a 66, followed by Sam Mitchell with a 62.

The next Nite Rodeo is Saturday (July 28) at 7 p.m., and the finals will be held Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.
